The same work, three other ways

Websites for local businesses

I design and build custom websites for restaurants and local businesses, and full web apps when a business needs accounts, publishing or email. Either way, the next step is obvious, especially on a phone.

Park West Diner

Custom restaurant website · Little Falls, NJ

Designed and launched a custom restaurant website that makes the menu, specials, hours, directions and ordering link easy to find.

Who it helps
Diner guests, mostly on phones, who want to see the menu, check whether it's open, call, get directions or order pickup.
What I owned
Design and front-end development, turning the printed menu into a searchable web menu, an owner update flow for specials and photos, and the launch on parkwestdiner.com.

emBabySteps

Full-stack publishing platform for a pediatric physical therapist

Designed and built a Next.js and Postgres publishing platform for a licensed pediatric physical therapist: a custom block editor with pre-publish checks, reader accounts, comments and saved posts, authenticator sign-in for staff, branded email and scheduled publishing.

Who it helps
Parents and caregivers of children from newborn to age five, and the physical therapist who writes for them several times a week.
What I owned
Everything: product decisions with the author, the design system, the Next.js app, the Postgres schema and migrations, authentication and security, email, tests, and deployment on Vercel and Railway.

What a site can include

Based on what I built for Park West Diner and emBabySteps. Every business is different, so we'll pick what yours needs.

  • A custom design shaped around what your customers come to do.
  • Phone-first pages for your menu or services, hours, location and contact details.
  • Call, directions and ordering or booking buttons that hand off to the tools you already use (Park West's order button goes to its existing Clover page).
  • A menu or service list people can search, with your printed version still available.
  • Search basics: page titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured business details.
  • Accessibility and phone testing before launch, on your own domain.
  • A simple way to update what changes often, like weekly specials or photos.
  • When you need more: accounts, an admin area and a publishing workflow, like the writing tools behind emBabySteps.
  • Branded emails for sign-ups, confirmations and newsletters, sent from your own domain.

How a project works

  1. Talk

Email me what your business does and what the site needs to do. I'll reply with a few questions.

  2. Plan

We agree on the pages, the content you already have (menus, photos, hours) and what's out of scope.

  3. Build

I design and build the site and share previews you can check on your own phone.

  4. Launch

The site goes live on your domain, and I show you how to update the parts that change.

Scope, timing and price depend on the project, so I don't list a rate card. Email me and I'll tell you what I'd suggest. Looking for an engineer instead? See the engineering overview.
